Injury blow for Murali

Injury blow for Murali

05/03/2010 07:48:47 AM

Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been ruled out of the ICC World Twenty20 with a groin injury.

The 38-year-old, the highest Test and one-day international wicket taker in the world, suffered the injury in his side's two-wicket loss to New Zealand.

A statement on Sri Lanka Cricket's official website, www.srilankacricket.lk, read: "Sri Lankan team physio Tommy Simsek speaking to srilankacricket.lk revealed that clinical tests revealed a grade one strain of his right adductor muscle.

"Murali will be advised to rest for 2-3 weeks, hence a replacement will be decided by SLC with the advice of the National selectors."

Sri Lanka next take on Zimbabwe in Guyana and must win to stay in the competition.
