The cricket boards of New Zealand and Australia must again rethink their nomination for the International Cricket Council vice-presidency after Sir John Anderson announced he was not available to be considered as a nominee.
Anderson, a former chairman of New Zealand Cricket, was viewed as an ideal candidate for the post but NZC's current chairman Alan Isaac revealed today that their approach had been rejected.
The New Zealand and Australia boards had already been asked to resubmit their nomination for the role after the ICC board declined their original joint candidate, former Australia prime minister John Howard.
"In light of ICC's rejection of the nomination of John Howard, I approached Sir John Anderson to assess his availability for the role. Unfortunately Sir John advised me that he is not available to be considered as a possible nominee," said Isaac.
"The NZC board respects Sir John's position and acknowledges the outstanding contribution he has made to game of cricket."
"We have recommenced discussions with Cricket Australia around a proposed a way forward."
Under the terms of the ICC's regional rotation nomination process, the sister boards must submit a new candidate by August 31.
