India humiliated New Zealand by 105 runs in their one day international on Wednesday to book a spot in the Tri Series final against Sri Lanka.
Powerhouse opener Virender Sehwag came to the rescue after a top-order slump, smashing his way to 110 off 93 balls as the Indians posted a respectable total of 223 all out at Dambulla on Wednesday.
New Zealand had to fancy their chances with such a gettable target, but paceman Praveen Kumar found the seaming wicket to his liking, ripping out three top-order wickets as the Kiwis capitulated to be all out for 118.
New Zealand started in a canter in conditions that suited the bowlers, with Dinesh Karthik feathering a length delivery from Kyle Mills to keeper Gareth Hopkins in the first over.
Sehwag took until the fifth over to start swinging, punching three consecutive balls to the off-side boundary off Mills, but Tim Southee collected Virat Kohli for eight in the next over to leave India wobbling at 27-2.
Sehwag kept hitting as the wickets kept tumbling, with Yuvraj Singh (6) becoming Hopkins' third catch when he top-edged a short delivery from Andy McKay and Suresh Raina (1) falling the next over as India's innings looked like falling apart at 66-4.
But skipper MS Dhoni provided a stable, if stodgy, partner for Sehwag, the duo combining for a 107-run partnership as Sehwag brought up his 13th ODI ton in just 87 balls.
He eventually holed out at deep midwicket to Nathan McCullum looking for his 17th boundary.
McCullum picked up Dhoni for 38 shortly after, and the tail offered little resistance to Southee, who was the pick of the bowlers with 49-4, and McCullum, who chipped in with three.
If India were disappointing then New Zealand were dismal, with only four batsmen - including tailenders Mills and Southee - reaching double figures.
The New Zealand top order collapsed to 23-4 after just nine overs with only Mills preventing a total capitulation to the Indian quicks as he hit seven fours and three sixes for an entertaining 52.
Kumar and Munaf Patel gathered three wickets apiece and Nehra finished with two when Mills went searching for the boundary one too many times and instead found Kumar on the long-on fence as the Kiwis were routed in less than 31 overs.
India will now play Sri Lanka in the final in Dambulla on Saturday.
